What is cellulite?
The term cellulite – sometimes called orange peel syndrome or cottage cheese skin - refers to the bumpy looking ripples of fat cells, usually found around the thighs and bum (and sometimes the stomach and arms). Cellulite is much more common in women than it is in men because of the different types of fat found in the body.
There are a number of factors that can contribute to the build-up of cellulite, including poor diet with little fibre, smoking, lack of exercise and genetic predisposition. You can reduce cellulite by following a few simple points.

- Reducing your caffeine, alcohol, salt, fat and sugar intake

In the meantime – here’s a couple of quick exercises to help you start on the path to reduce cellulite:
- Lie flat on the floor face down with your head resting on your arms. Slowly lift your leg backwards keeping your hip on the floor. Try and hold it in position, then rest. You should feel your hamstring stretch. An easy way to reduce cellulite.
- Try a “squat” – these are good for numerous muscles in your legs and lower body. Bend your legs at the knees and hips, lower your body between the legs, and then gently stand up straight again. Keep your back straight and don’t bounce. Be careful with these – it’s worth reading up some more on how to do safe squats, or even investing in a back support belt.
